Florence Carver Is Teacher of the Year

education, florence carver, teaching,

For almost 30 years, Florence Carver has been teaching – and learning.

Carver has been named the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year. Carver says her own love of learning is something she tries to transmit to her students.

“When something new comes out, I get right on it,” she says. “I’m a lifelong learner, and I pass that along to my kids.”

These days she’s making use of technological advances that allow her to present volumes of information to students that would have been unthinkable a few years ago.

“It’s funny; the technology has been the biggest change for me, but it’s the lesson plan I did with the SMART Board and the audio enhancers that got me the district award,” she says. “The judges said they were impressed with how I used technology as a part of my lesson. Once you get over your fears, these things are extremely helpful to teaching.”
